Roach Extermination

Roach Control and Extermination in Maryland

Roaches are one of the most resilient insects that can cause health problems for you and your family. They are present at all times of the year; if left untreated, roaches can become a significant problem in your Maryland home. Without regular pest control, cockroaches seek refuge in cupboards, flooring, walls, and practically anywhere else. The Maryland area has a few different types of cockroaches, including American, German, and Oriental cockroaches.

Lucky for you, On The Green, Inc. specializes in roach control and extermination services. We proudly serve Anne Arundel, Prince Georges, and Howard County, Maryland and beyond.

Identifying a Roach Infestation

Cockroaches are excellent hiders and will find their way into every nook and cranny. Look for droppings on corners, under refrigerators, and sinks. Cockroaches love to eat and leave many dark droppings resembling ground coffee or black pepper. These droppings are toxic, so always use caution when cleaning them up. Keep an eye out for egg sacs called ootheca. They resemble oval-shaped brown pouches. A foul smell is usually indicative of German cockroaches. Roaches are nocturnal, so if you see a roach during the day, you have a problem or soon will.

A Clean House Keeps Roaches Away

Sanitation and cleaning practices are the top preventative measures for preventing roaches. The kitchen is the best place to start. Cockroaches need food, shelter, and especially water. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to help limit them:

  • Don’t leave out food, crumbs, spills, dirty dishes, pet food dishes, or open trash cans
  • Don’t leave out pet litter boxes since roaches are attracted to animal droppings
  • Clean your countertops nightly
  • Vacuum kitchen floors, and pay special attention to dark areas under and around appliances

Areas of high moisture, like planters, condensation from pipes, or leaky faucets, are very attractive to cockroaches. Roaches eat cardboard and paper, so don’t hoard them since old boxes also make excellent hiding spots.

Roaches can appear anywhere. Unfortunately, a clean home and avoiding conditions that make them more likely will NOT prevent roaches. If you see them, don’t be embarrassed or feel like you did something wrong.
