Patapsco Valley State Park
Forty minutes north of Severn, Maryland’s first official state park has multiple developed areas totaling more than 14,000 acres.
Different areas include:
McKeldin: Western section featuring trails for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking. Also includes course for Frisbee golf and Patapsco River for fishing.
Daniels: The Daniels dam allows for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming.
Hollofield: Central section of the park featuring a 73-site campground. Also includes hiking trails and a scenic overlook above the river valley.
Pickall: Playgrounds, Picnic shelters.
Hilton: Mini-cabins in a small campground, a nature center, and access to many trails.
Avalon/Glen Artney/Orange Grove Flour Mill: Historic sites including the Old Gun Road Stone Arch Bridge, Orange Grove Flour Mill, Cascade Falls, and Swinging Bridge.
Located on Clarksville Pike and surrounding Centennial Lake, this award-winning park offers boat rentals for its 54-acre lake, and a 2.4-mile paved trail loop going around the lake, as well as interconnecting trails. The park is home to various wildlife, such as white-tailed deer, beaver, foxes, turtles, herons, and more. Fish for bass, trout, sunfish, and tiger muskies, then have lunch in one of the three picnic areas.
Hidden behind the Long Gate Shopping Centre, this 77-acre park holds three baseball fields, a large playground for the kids, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, two picnic pavilions, and about 2.4 miles of pathways. The park also holds the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex.
